calvinandh0bbes
Quick, probably simple question. My unraid server has no more free ports or bays, and I am going to start the process of replacing the original small drives (1 TB) with some larger ones. I'd like to preclear my replacement parity drive and data drive before I put them in as replacements. My desktop is an old Ubuntu box (running 12.04). Motherboard won't support > 2 TB. Looking at installing a 2 port PCI sata card that will support the bigger disks. Can I run the preclear script on an Ubuntu box (ie, not a machine running unraid)? Quote Link to comment
BRiT
You might be able to run the slower preclear script on ubuntu. You might not be able to run the faster preclear script on ubuntu since it uses an executable for reading. You should be able to use a second flash drive with trial version of unraid on the other hardware. Quote Link to comment
calvinandh0bbes
im fine with it running slower. i don't really have any other hardware to run it on (all laptops that I can't tie up preclearing). Quote Link to comment
mr-hexen
What about a PCIe card + external bay on the unRAID machine? Quote Link to comment
calvinandh0bbes
Yeah, looking at an esata dock. My mb's esata port likely won't support >2 tb, so I'll need to get a cheap esata pcie card. Any I should avoid or lean towards? Quote Link to comment
