Getting drives to work

Featured Replies

Ok, so im fairley new to UnRaid and Linux.

I have 2x 4tb WD greens and 1x 1.5tb WD green and a bunch of other drives, but i need to get an array started with there drives.

I have tried to format the drived with NTFS, ExFAT and as RAW partition, without any partitions, all of the above in offline mode (from windows) and still can't get the drives to work in unraid.

Unraid sees the drives, i can put them in the array, but there is a blue dot that says that it is a new device. With preclear it says that the device is busy, which i can't understand. The drive have nothing on it, and are not mounted anywhere?!

So do you have any suggestion as to why i cant get any ay my HDDs to work?

Is there any information i have failed to supply, please let me know so i can provide it :)

Thank's in advance.

You should not bother doing anything to the drives before adding them to unRAID. The sequence is:

  • Assign the drives to unRAID.  unRAID will correctly say the drives are new to unRAID.
  • Start the array - the drives will show as unmountable, but you will be given an option to format the unmountable drives.
  • tell unRAID to format the drives.

If anything goes wrong in the above sequence give the details and the diagnostics file (Tools->Diagnostics) taken at the same time.

Wow.. I can't believe it was so simple! This worked great. So simple.

Thank you so much!
