April 4, 201610 yr Hello All, I have my UNRAID box connected to a Netgear R7000 router. The router has DD-WRT firmware flashed on it. I have successfully set-up OpenVPN on the router (PIA). Now, how do I connect to my home network remotely? It is my understanding that when I connect to the VPN that it will be like I am at home on the network. When I am home, the UNRAID shares just show up as Network drives. How do I get this same functionality remotely? Sorry if this is a dumb question

Sorry if this is a dumb question It sounds like you connected your router to a VPN service (PIA), which isn't at all what you need for remote home access. You need to set up a OpenVPN server on your router, instead of a client of PIA, then use an OpenVPN client on your remote devices to connect back to the OpenVPN server on your router. There is no need to pay for a VPN service to enable remote access. A paid VPN service is used to set up a tunnel to another part of the world to make it appear that your computer isn't where it actually is. You want a private tunnel between your remote device and your router.
