I recently learned about unraid and wanted to give it a shot.

 

I have installed another 1Tb drive from my other computer(Trying to move all the disks from my pc to the new NAS)

 

I never got the option to format the drive it just started some sort of cleaning mode. I was wonderign if there is a way to manuly format the drive to avoide this.

 

I have manuly set the file system type to xfs but never recived the option to format the drive from the Array operation

 

You'll be given the chance to format it once it has finished clearing. Clearing is the process of filling it with zeroes in order to include it in the array without affecting the status of the parity disk.

Yest, there is.  There is a preclear plugin which serves as a 'wrapper' for a preclear script.  The plugin automates what previously required the use of the command line to use the preclear script.  You can find information on both here:

(My description might make it seem more difficult then it truly is.  The preclear script does much more in the way of testing a drive then the clearing process which is now built into unRAID.  Most of the Gurus use it on any new drive before adding that drive into the array.  I personally like to run enough cycles that the drive will have an minimum of 100 hours on the drive to avoid any issues with infant morality!)

Note that the 'preclear' mentioned does not shorten the elapsed time.  In fact it takes significantly longer as it also carries out a read/write confidence test on the drive.  The advantage is that can be done in advance of adding the drive to the array, and many people want the confidence test before they add it to unRAID.  A precleared disk avoids the 'clear' phase when you add the disk to unRAID so finally adding it to the array only takes seconds.
