April 7, 201610 yr Hi, i'm new to unraid but i got it up and running with a win10 vm and succesfully passed through my r9 290. But i have a question about the allocation method. I'm not sure i set it up correctly: As you can see my 2tb drive is filled up well over it's 50% capacity despite using the high water allocation method. Do i have to assign the hard drives manyually in the 'share settings' tab? ps: i will use picture links instead of embedded pictures if necessary
April 7, 201610 yr One thing that may not be obvious is that if there is contention between a Allocation Method and Split Level for selecting a disk then the Split Level setting wins.
April 7, 201610 yr High water works like this: 1 - Fill up until the 2tb is 1tb available (2 tb/2) 2 - Now fill up until 500GB available on all the drives (1tb / 2) 3 - Now fill up until 250GB available on all the drives (500GB / 2) So, the system is working properly, and will switch over to storing information on disk 2 once disk 1 hits 500GB free. Note: that at the beginning of each stage, unRaid starts storing beginning with disk 1 (ie: disk 1 hits its high water mark then 2 and so on) Maybe you wanted Most-Free instead?
April 7, 201610 yr Author Ok, thanks for the quick reply! I read the (unofficial) wiki several times and thought it would switch over to storing information on disk 2 once disk 1 hits 1000gb free. So i misunderstood The split level-thing is something i don't fully understand yet. But i will, in time...
