Exactly what I said and he's like well we can just use backup drives but I swear we have bought enough of them to open up a shop and they have all vanished

If you can find any of them you can probably crack them open and reuse the drives in your new server.

I wouldn't waste a port on 500GB, but I don't have many ports and have plenty of larger drives. But they don't cost you anything and you can easily upgrade them to larger drives later.
