April 8, 201610 yr I've been watching Amazon UK for a while now waiting for the prices on the 3TB WD Reds to drop a bit or perhaps for them to pop up in a lightning deal or deal of the day. The 3TB Reds are around the £90 ($127). So while browsing around Amazon I spotted a deal on 3TB Greens with the extended warranty (1 year) for £75 ($106) each from the "Outlet" store. Normally they seem to be around £107 ($150) each. They only had two so I snapped them up. They arrived today and I tried to register them with WD (using today's date as the purchase date) but note I did not enter the code for the extended warranty. Straight away I got a message saying they were out of warranty. I checked the manufacture date on them and they are both December 2013. I spoke to an Amazon support agent and I basically came away with a few choices: [*]Keep the HDD's. Contact WD and see if their can change the warranty situation on them. Concerns here that I have two "new" HDDs almost 2.5 years old. [*]Get a full refund. [*]Send them back and get two replacements which won't be in stock again for about a month. Probably not the end of the world as I'm waiting for a motherboard to arrive for the unRAID build. [*]Send them back and get a £10 ($14) discount on an order for a couple of Reds. I'll be out of pocket by £20 ($28) with this option. So what would you do?
April 8, 201610 yr How long do you have to return them? Do you have an existing unraid build or are you building your first? If you have an existing unraid build do a preclear on the drives, or there are other tools you can run on the drives to test them to see if they are ok.

No I don't have a current unRAID build to teat them in. What other tools could I use? I have a USB - SATA dock and Windows or OS X operating systems.
