April 18, 201610 yr Yes, but they need to be flashed with IT (non-RAID) firmware, which often proves to be more difficult than it really ought to be. There's a huge thread about it here: https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12767.0

LSI 9201-16i SGL http://www.avagotech.com/products/server-storage/host-bus-adapters/sas-9201-16i does not have raid ? will this be ok? thanks Yeah, i'm running the LSI 9201-16i in my backup server. Works fine in unraid. And since it's a pure hba, not a raid controller, it doesn't need to be flashed to IT mode.
April 20, 201610 yr Author Out of curiosity and since the LSI card I mentioned is not readily available for me to order from online retails I've looked at. Are there any other cards out there that will do the exact same thing as the LSI card that anyone could suggest please? Maybe another LSI model or another manufacturer? Non-raid of course.

April 20, 201610 yr Or you could get a couple of the 2008 clones, Dell, IBM etc on ebay. Flash them to IT and you have 16 ports for $100 tops.

Buying a LSI 9201-16i controller really only makes sense if you're limited on pcie slots, or if you plan on saving those slots for other cards. Anyway this thread should probably ought to be moved to the storage/controllers subforum.
