April 21, 201610 yr Hi, I understand the single file size limit put on the cache drive but what happens for example if I am copying for example 100 4GB files to my server with a 250GB Cache drive when it fills up? what happens to the other 150GB does it then start writing to the disks directly? Many Thanks
April 21, 201610 yr I haven't tested it personally, but I understand that files in excess of your cache limits are written directly to the array (at reduced speeds due to parity protected writes).

Many Thanks The first point is that you want the Min Free space setting for the cache drive under Settings->Global Share settings share to be larger than any individual file you are copying (e.g. At least 4GB with the quoted example). This is because once unRAID has selected a file to start writing it it does not later switch that file to another drive if there is not enough space for the file. When the free space on the cache drive falls below the Min Free space value any subsequent files are written directly to the array (albeit at a slower speed) bypassing the cache.

Perfect! that is what I hoped for :-)
