Preclearing multiple drives at once

Featured Replies

Is there any reason why I couldn't preclear 10 8TB drives at once, on a server with 16GB of RAM?

hehe, that's a lot.  You could probably do it fine though if it's on the server in your sig.  Try it and see. :)

It is.

I've never had an issue preclearing 3-4 drives at once, do you just run out of RAM immediately or something? I'd be worried about getting 30 something hours into preclears and then having problems.

Not sure. The most i've ever done at a time is like 4.  If you're worried i'd just do 5 at a time and don't do all 10 at once. You should have no problems with 5.

When I tried more than 4 preclears at once the only thing I noticed was a sluggish WebGUI, CPU e RAM usage remained low.

From recent experience of preclearing 11 8TB drives, make sure you make your /var/log bigger. The advice I was given was the following;

mount -o remount,size=256m /var/log

I only ran 6 in parallel.

As already mentioned although CPU and memory usage didn't get very high, the gui was unresponsive at times.

That was on a box with 64GB of RAM.
