Extremely slow SMB transfer

Featured Replies

I have a rather large pro set-up with 15 disks with a total of more than 80TB in the array. I am high-lighting this as this may be part of the issue?

I have a VM running on it with Win10 and have mapped the array drives. I can copy between the array drives and typically get reasonably good speeds (100MB/s).

Unfortunately, it takes ages to copy from other computers to the array. I have been doing this over SMB (in Win10 just typing //Unraid-IP). I don't know what has changed, but this no longer works well. Copy speed is now as low as 1MB/s, which obiously does not help and makes it impossible to copy to the array. The only thing that may have changed is that I have updated Unraid, but still using stable built, so I doubt this is the issue.

Happy to provide log files or run tests, but would need some guidance what is best required for trouble-shooting.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Tools - Diagnostics (preferably after one of the slow transfers) with a note attached as to the rough time frame the transfer took place

Thanks a lot. Here we go with a log taken around 10min after the slow transfer. The transferred file completed, but the average speed was only 1MB/sec.

File transfer was at around 2:20am (30-40min ago).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, this will not be the issue. There is no Win10 machine involved. The Unraid server array is Unraid. I have tried to copy / read both from a Win8 machine as well as from a RPi2 running Openelec. In both cases, it is horribly slow.

The only Win10 machine in the mix is a VM, but this one is not in the way when copying from the array to Win8 or OE.

Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

Do you get different speed if copying to array disk or cache disk?

I have not tried copying to the cache disk, can do over the weekend. However, the speed is so incredibly slow (i.e., 1 MB/sec) compared to what I would expect (100 MB/sec?). Copying from the array to the cache disk (inside VM Win10) works at solid speed, but this does not involve the network?

You should try copying to the cache disk, if it's the same slow speed it's almost certainly a network problem.

Ok, will give it a try. Shall I try to copy to the VM on the cache drive or to the cache drive directly?

One indication thought that it is not a network issue. I have a Win8 notebook and can copy at proper (full) speed to my RPi2 (OE). When copying from the same Win8 notebook to the Unraid array, it is super slow (see log).

Try the cache disk directly.

A network issue can affect just part of the network, e.g., bad cable, bad switch port.
