April 26, 201610 yr Hello everyone, instead of buying a desktop PC and a separate NAS i'm planning to build a Gaming Rig with unRAID and Windows VM with GPU passthrough. My knowledge of the features and processes of unRAID are limited as i just started reading things up, but i want to keep an eye on power efficiency. If i pass the GPU through, and i turn off the VM (when i don't play), can i "deactivate" the GPU, so it doesn't use (much) power? Also: can i throttle the CPU inside unRAID, so the NAS-processes (PMS, SABnzbd, Sonarr, Owncloud, etc.) don't use much power? On a sidenote: i heard that onboard-audio can't be passed through, so i need a sound-card/-adapter to have sound in my (Windows) Gaming-Environment? I intend to run the system (almost) 24/7, so power consumption is an issue for me.
