December 10, 200916 yr Good Morning Long time lurker, first time builder. I just completed my server using 4.2.4 (basic free version), and finished the parity check. I also did memtest for one pass. I now have a few questions: 1. Should I upgrade to 4.5 (Dec 9)? 2. The unRaid would not boot on my machine unless I had set acpi=off in the syslinux.cfg file. I am using a GIGABYTE|GA-MA785G-UD3H motherboard with a AMD Sempron 2.7ghz processor. Did I miss something in the BIOS? 3. If I purchase the pre-made flash drives from Lime tech, what size are the drives, and what build will I get? Or should I buy my own flash drive and just get the license? 4. I am using XBMC in two rooms - if I set users, will this affect me? This may be off-topic, but I get the feel there are a few of us using unRaid. 5. What about Slimserver? I am thinking of purchasing a Squeezebox in the next few months. Now I am going to add unMenu, and take it from there. Thanks in advance.
December 10, 200916 yr 1. Should I upgrade to 4.5 (Dec 9)? YES. There have been a LOT of fixes and performance improvements in both the unRAID modules and the included Linux kernels, including ACPI support. 2. The unRaid would not boot on my machine unless I had set acpi=off in the syslinux.cfg file. I am using a GIGABYTE|GA-MA785G-UD3H motherboard with a AMD Sempron 2.7ghz processor. Did I miss something in the BIOS? I can't guarantee it, but ACPI issues should be handled much better with the latest kernels. You do of course have to have ACPI enabled in the BIOS settings. 4. I am using XBMC in two rooms - if I set users, will this affect me? This may be off-topic, but I get the feel there are a few of us using unRaid. Not an answer, but see the UnRAID Topical Index, XBMC section. 5. What about Slimserver? I am thinking of purchasing a Squeezebox in the next few months. Not an answer, but see the UnRAID Topical Index, SlimServer section.
December 10, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the nudge on the wiki - I did not realize that page even existed. Thanks! And I'll be on 4.5 (basic) tomorrow. Thanks again
