April 29, 201610 yr Hi, Ordering hardware for my 1st unraid server and I want to be sure which data cables are needed for the Norco RPC-4220 server case & Supermicro X10SDV-4C-7TP4F. Is it 4 SFF8087 to SFF8087 cables for the 4 on board SAS ports, and 1 SFF8087 to SATA reverse breakout cable for the 4 onboard SATA ports? Thanks!
April 29, 201610 yr From looking at the specs on the motherboard I don't think the picture of the motherboard is correct. The specs say that it has 16x SAS2/SATA3 and 4x SATA3 ports which would tell me you would need 5 of the reverse cables. Supermicro's motherboards are great but there labeling of things are weird. Every time I have ordered a Supermicro MB there boxes are always showing the wrong MB. Also you might want to get the Norco case first before you get any accessories for it (120mm fan conversion, extra HD mount, wire length). I bought two 4220s and both have different mounting points, SFF8087 & power ports are in different location, and the wire management holes where different. Also depending on the placement of the SFF8087 and power ports it might be less stress on the cables to move the fans to the other side of the fan bracket. Just my 2 cents working with these cases.
April 29, 201610 yr Author 16x SAS2/SATA3 devices support is through 4 SAS 2.0 ports: Connectors 31 to 34 in the Quick Reference guide Regarding waiting for the case before buying the accessories, good point. I will do that, although as for data cables I see in the quick reference guide that the motherboard case contains 4 Mini-SAS cables + 4 SATA cables.
April 29, 201610 yr Found a good picture on the 8F model: http://www.servethehome.com/supermicro-x10sdv-7tp8f-high-end-xeon-d-platform/ Those ports are SFF-8643 so you will need to convert them to SFF-8087
April 30, 201610 yr Author Thanks. Hopefully the mini-SAS cables supplied with the MB are SFF-8643 to SFF-8087.
