December 12, 200916 yr Don't know if this has been asking, but is it possible to implement and auto-check if there is a newer version available for download then the one currently installed? There may be an "upgrade" button which will autodownload and overwrite bzimage and bzroot and reboot afterwards. This will be a great feature and is actually used on the most known NAS boxes out there, like on the Qnap for instance. Thanks much!
February 25, 201016 yr I'd agree. Also another handy feature would be to have a section on the unRAID main page to do a "Firmware Upgrade". FreeNAS and other Linux/UNIX-based servers have this good feature. Instead of upgrading the OS in the way we do with unRAID now, it would be great or just simply upload a firmware file, reboot and done! Just an idea to Joe L that would be an awesome feature in any upcoming future OS versions of unRAID. Hope to see it soon.

I've been thinking of a "update" page to allow unMENU to update itself, but I have nothing to do with the unRAID itself. I do agree, it is a good idea to have unRAID alert you a newer version is available. Joe L.
March 3, 201016 yr It would be like the K.I.S.S. effect, to just upload a f/w update to the unRAID server and reboot, too easy and less fluffing around, although the current method of updating isn't difficult at all, it's just a simpler approach.
March 3, 201016 yr All these feature requests are good ideas. I think there are many waiting for 5.0 to come out and see how we can write plugins to do all of this. I've stopped much of what I was doing and/or plan to do, so I can do it once and do it right.

March 4, 201016 yr I'd like to see that feature integrated within the unRAID OS, without the using add-ons, that would be cool.
April 5, 201016 yr I good idea for this feature would be to have something show either on unraid's or in unmenu's web gui on a different link to state that their is a newer OS release (the link could be labeled 'Updates'. Then below it to state the changelog of the fixes/features it would introduce into the update. Accepting that you want to update would warn you that the server would require a reboot. To make it even better is a button to click on 'Update', downloading the required file it needs to update (mostly the bzimage and bzroot, again, depending on what OS version you are currently running), rename the older files, extract and place the updated files to the /boot/ folder, do a restart and your updated.
April 5, 201016 yr Author UnRAID main shows in the top right corner the version and whether it is Pro or not. Just down below I would print "new version avaibel: ver (Upgrade?)" and that's it. All othere have this, Squeezebox Server has it too. It is a nobrainer to download the two or three files and put them on the USB stick (and make a backup copy of the older).
April 6, 201016 yr That is correct starcat, it is very simple to update two/three files, but it would be good to be informed on the Main Page of the web gui instead of your unraid server whether an update is available, including the changelog info as well. No issue for me if this isn't implemented as I'm on this forum daily, but not everyone is. Just a thought. UnRAID main shows in the top right corner the version and whether it is Pro or not.
