Upgrade To Unraid?

Featured Replies

I currently run a home server that is windows based but I have a lot of different stuff on there and a failure would be a huge pain. I used previous versions of unraid and was happy with the storage but needed windows so I had to switch. Now that Unraid supports VMs I want to revisit using it with Several VMs to accomplish the same thing. Before I spend an afternoon installing unraid 6.0 to test I would like some opinions.

The machines that I am looking to run are below, is this something that unraid is capable of? I can update with current hardware specs when I get home.

Plex Server

HDhomerun DVR

Home automation server (windows)

3 separate web servers

A backup server, likely crash plan

Mymovies/MCE buddy server

In the future I may look at adding a DVR for security Cameras

Thanks for the responses

1. You can do plex server from docker.

3. Thinking of VM? Yes you can run vm on unRAID.

5. You can use CrashPlan, there is a docker for it.

7. There are some DVR out there, depends on what you want.

To follow up, the hardware I have is a core i7 4790 with 16 gb of ram. I am specifically looking to run the silicondust HDDVR that supports their Cable Card tuners.

Is this doable with the current hardware or is it going to be a tinkering nightmare?
