Any issue with just having one share for all files?

Featured Replies

I just built my unRAID server and started playing with the user shares.  Seems to me the most logical thing to do is just have one share (I called it 'root') and have all files stored on that.  That way, all I need to do is map to \\server\root, and I always see what's on all disks.  Am I missing something?  I don't see the need for creating a share for every category (Videos, Movies, Music, Photos, etc) when those can just be folders within the main 'root' share.

There is probably nothing wrong with naming it root, but I would chose a different name.  root happens to be the name of the "super user" on the system.

As for having that one share and then everything under it, it is all personal preference.  I like having mine separated so I can control what content is put on what disks.
