Power up, all drives detected as new

Featured Replies

Ok, I left for the weekend and I "powerdown"ed my machine using the powerdown script.

I came back home, and realized the power had been interrupted at my place at some point (don't know for how long, though).

I powered on my unRAID machine and got this:

NEW_ARRAY, unRAID ARRAY is STOPPED 8 disks in array.    PARITY NOT VALID: DISK_NEW

This sort of alarms me, as the array was fine when I powered it down earlier.

Is it ok to start the array? I want to make sure I don't lose any of the data on any of the disk(s).

Attached is my syslog.

Your config/super.dat file is corrupted.

These two lines in the syslog are present:

Dec 14 00:19:11 Persephone kernel: md: invalid superblock checksum

Dec 14 00:19:11 Persephone kernel: md: initializing superblock

It is where the array status is stored.

As long as all your disks are working you can use the "Trust-my-parity" procedure to get back online without having to wait for a full parity calc to complete, or start the array and let it compute parity.

Ok, thanks Joe.

I'm wondering where it got corrupted from when it shutdown to when it started up. :(

Which "powerdown" were you using? The one built into unRAID or the user community addon?

From one user's experience, the "built-in" command line command Tom added does not first stop the array, so it would cause errors.

I've not validated this, but since it invokes the same "url" as the power-down button that is not normally visible unless the array is stopped it makes sense.

Unless you typed the full path of /sbin/powerdown, you used the built-in one, as it is first in the execution path.

Hmmm I didn't realize there was a built-in powerdown script. I thought I was using the community script, but I can't be sure now. I putty'd into the server and typed "powerdown". I hadn't realized there was already an alias for this command.

Something new: I'm at work and can't see the machine log, but I started the array last night and now I'm getting these emails:

Hmmm... not sure what happened, but now I'm getting:

Status: unRaid is OK

Date: Mon Dec 14 13:25:58 GMT+8 2009

I guess I'll figure out what's going on when I get home.
