is it possible to share openvpn connection using USB-to-RJ45 adapter?

Featured Replies

Hey!

I would like to know if it is possible to receive internet connection using RJ45 that build in the MB,

and share it to another switch, using USB to RJ45 adapter that I have,

but, with openvpn.

so that the shared connection will be connected to some VPN service that I am using.

Thanks!

The answer is a definitive maybe...

I'm not familiar with the USB to RJ45 adapter that you plan to use, but the first question I have is... is it compatible with Linux and are there drivers for it... even if there are I somehow doubt they are in the default build of unRAID so you might have to compile your own kernel with the needed driver. This is what I think the real issue is... if it works you should be able to use it... getting it to work might be a headache though.

Then  you would need to identify the port under your network config and direct OpenVPN at that port.

why does it have to be so complicated?
Because unraid loads from the boot USB and runs completely in RAM. Small and fast is good, so all extra stuff that normally is installed with linux is omitted.

thanks for the info.

I guess I'm gonna need a MB with 2 RJ45 connections :-)
