May 12, 201610 yr Hi. Every time my server looses power (my fault), for whatever reason, I can't reboot into unRAID, it just don't work. Happened twice. The fist time that happened, no data was lost, except the OS itself, but I had to reconfigure it all over again and reinstall the plugins. This second time I can't touch the files on the USB thumb drive, they're either corrupt or I just can't access them (permission). Now, it's been a while and I didn't even bothered setting the ser up again before I could get some light on what happens to the files once the power is off. Are files there (on the thumb drive) and I just can access or most of the config files are indeed corrupted? Thank you guys.
May 12, 201610 yr You should try plugging the USB drive into a windows PC and running check disk on it. It's very likely that the sudden loss of power resulted in corruption of the operating system.

The files inside the config directory were warned to be corrupted and some were blank. Is there a way to constantly backup unRAID config automatically? Say something like this happens, I just transfer the config files over to the thumb drive and I'm good?
May 12, 201610 yr I use SyncBack on a Windows desktop to periodically backup the flash drive, but you can set up just about any kind of scheduled backup, on the unRAID server or from another system. I've been doing that for years, but haven't had to restore anything yet. Not sure how yours were so easily corrupted. However, I strongly recommend adding a UPS. You really can't allow power outages on a file server with lots of drives.

I don't need to create an image of the thumb drive, stop services, nothing like that? Just schedule a simply file copy? Also, can you help me with the UPS? It's a home server, so a home UPS should do. I just don't know how much VA. It's an intel i5, 5x HDDs, 1x SSD, 1x 750Ti (slim model, don't even need power directly from the PSU), all that on a Corsair CX 430W PSU.

Restoration should be just copying them back, *unless* you have to reformat, in which case you also need to rerun make_bootable. Also, can you help me with the UPS? There are a number of UPS threads in the Hardware forum (like this one). I can say that APC is the most popular and most often recommended, but more expensive, especially for battery replacement (but there are cheaper replacement sources). APC support is built into unRAID,and works to some extent with others that are compatible, such as CyberPower (the second most recommended and cheaper). For managing other UPS units, there is the NUT plugin.
