December 17, 200916 yr i have an old p4 3.2ghz pc in a coolermaster case that i'd like to use to test unraid. im planning to buy 2 2tb disks and install unraid. but eventually i plan to migrate to a norco, change mobo, cpu and all. can i just "drag and drop" the disks or will i need to install from scratch and move data from my backups ? pls advice
December 17, 200916 yr can i just "drag and drop" the disks or will i need to install from scratch and move data from my backups ? No need to re-install anything. Because there will be new disk controllers involved you will need to visit the "Devices" page when you migrate the drives to the new server to be sure the disks are assigned to the correct logical slots in the array as they were on the old hardware. It does not matter if their hardware changes, or the device name changes, as long as the "parity" drive is assigned to the "parity" slot in the new device assignment, and the data disks are assigned to their correct slots, everything else will just work. Either copy the "config" folder from the old flash drive to the new (after loading it with unRAID and running syslinux -ma on it), or just use the old flash drive as it was plugged into the new motherboard.
