Moving cache from HDD to SSD

Featured Replies

Hello :)

Im thinking of changing my cache drive from HDD to an SSD, but how do I this without loosing data that is only on the cache?

I went the slow way, created a cache_backup directory on one of the array disks, copied everything over.

Shut down

Swapped the hdd for the ssd

Assigned the ssd as cache

Copied everything back

Done

I am sure there is an easier way using the unassigned drives plugin.

But this is how it worked for me

I did this by:

Stop the array

Change Cache assignment to the SSD

Start the array and format new Cache drive

Mount the HDD with the Unassigned Devices plugin

Copy the data across.

If you have dockers/VMs running from the cache drive, it's probably best to disable the docker and VM Manager services until the data has been copied over.

If you're not running VMs (or if they are stored within the same appdata folder as all of your docker configs), you could set up CA to backup your appdata folder.  Swap the drives, then restore it with CA
