Harware upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I am looking into upgrading my hardware on my Unraid system allowing me to run more containers and vms. I have read some place that you can simply plug your flash drive into that new system and everything will work without any issues. My issue is will it detect all my drives even if they are not plugged into the different sata ports? Will everything work the same without any issues?

Thanks

Yes, depending on what version of unRAID you are using.  Prior to version 5 you had to be careful with slots and device IDs.  Since version 5 unRAID has identified drives by serial number and will find them regardless of which sata port you use.  The sda/sdb designations may change, but the drives will be remembered correctly.

Thanks for the help I am running the latest Unraid 6 at this time. I just wanted to be clear prior to undergoing this upgrade.

Thanks
