May 31, 201610 yr http://nextron.no/main.php3?PI=info&PNO=29225 I'm thinking about buying that card as my 8 SATA ports are in use, and I want to expand my array, so my real question is, does unRAID support it? What really put me off was this he SAS2LP-MV8 Installation CD contains drivers for Microsoft Windows and RedHat/SuSE/Fedora Linux operating systems. Will I be able to install the drivers with telnet or something similar or will unraid support it at all?
May 31, 201610 yr If you search for the model name "SAS2LP-MV8" you'll find a wealth of information on this card. But to cut a long story short I would opt for an LSI based card. You can see what I use in my signature. This subforum is dedicated to controller cards.
May 31, 201610 yr Author The M1015 FW15 right? http://www.amazon.com/IBM-Serveraid-M1015-Controller-46M0831/dp/B0034DMSO6#Ask Is this it? How many SATA drives can I connect? (can't find the info on it(New to amazon)) Does it support 8TB drives? I will remember to post there next time, I did look for the subforum
May 31, 201610 yr That's the one, it can connect 8 drives but you need two forward breakout cables to do so (as you do with the supermicro one) I actually use dell Perc H310 cards and crossflash them to the LSI firmware. There's a post somewhere detailing how to do so. But it does tend to make it a lot cheaper if you look on ebay for them.
June 1, 201610 yr Author I don't mind paying abit extra for the more expensive card, are you sure its compatible with unRAID? Thanks for the ebay tip, found it 20$ cheaper.
June 1, 201610 yr 69 pages of users suggests it works, as does my spec in my signature. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12767.0
June 1, 201610 yr Whatever you buy either the Dell or the LSI one you'll need to reflash it to use the IT firmware so spending extra money won't save you much trouble.
June 1, 201610 yr Author Then I will go for the cheaper one, only find used on ebay. https://www.amazon.com/342-4047-Dell-Adapter-HV52W-Controller/dp/B0153J1L3W/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1464799668&sr=1-4&keywords=dell+perc+h310 Would this be the correct card\correct model no, should be able to flash that one? Its not too new a firmware on it? Those are regular SAS and not mini SAS? (So I don't order faulty breakout cables. Again, thanks - just trying to be absolutely sure I dont order the wrong card.
June 1, 201610 yr Yep that card is the one I'm using and these are the forward breakout cables I am using. To flash it there are guides on here but this one is an updated version of the one I used. The only other thing to be aware of is there are occasionally problems with the Dell card not booting on certain motherboards, I have no problems whatsoever, but the fix is easy.
June 1, 201610 yr Community Expert Also, these get hot, make sure there's some airflow on the controller.
June 1, 201610 yr Author I'm planning to get a new case for additional hard drives, so I will make sure. I ordered the cables and card now. Thanks alot for the replies
June 7, 201610 yr Author I have now received the card and cables, but I am waiting for some parts for my current desktop to get it up and running again. So I currently have no computer to test it on. Just a quick question, (in case I need the cables), there are two pin sets on the card, should I have a cable to connect these to the motherboard? They are marked SAS ACT LED J_SAS_ACT1 and J_UART1 do I need a cable to connect to these to the motherboard(and if so what kind?), or should it work just by placing it in a PCI-Express2.0 port? Just want to make sure I have everything ready till I get my desktop running
June 7, 201610 yr With mine I just stuck it in the PCI-E slot and it worked. I vaguely remember having some cable which I had no clue what it was for. Just need the breakout cables.
June 7, 201610 yr Author How are you using your Lian Li PC-343? It got 18 5,25" bays but non for 3,5", do you use something so that the 3,5" fits in the 5,25" bays? I am thinking of buying Lian Li Lian Li PC-D8000 which has 20 3,5" and 20 2,5", but I never get to use the 2,5" ones. The 343 seems abit cheaper, and I would only go down two harddrive spaces.

I use 5 in 3 hotswap bays. Currently got three so plenty of room for expansion left.
