June 1, 201610 yr Hello folks, I'm new to unraid and really excited to start using it . I'm coming from Ubuntu Server 14. I've got a good idea on how highwater works but it's not working for my shares. It just fills the drive up. Here is my Directory setup. Currently my Library share is set to Level 2. Would anybody have any idea on why its not doing 50/50/50/50/50 then back to drive 1? Also my parity drive is not installed yet as all of my data resides on that disk that Im migrating from. Library(1) Movies(2) Movie folder(Year)(3) Movie Data(year).ext TV(2) Series name(3) Season folder(4) Series Data.ext

June 1, 201610 yr Community Expert I would be very surprised if the High Water allocation was not working - much more likely is a configuration error. Also, you need to be aware that the Split level over-rides the allocation method when selecting a disk. Provide more details to show why you think it is not working. You should also provide the diagnostics file (from Tools->Diagnostics) as that allows us to see how you have things set up and what is happening on the system.
June 1, 201610 yr Community Expert What is the path of the files? Your split level only allows for the share plus one sub-folder to exist on multiple disks. After that anything created at the next level is constrained to a single disk.
June 1, 201610 yr Author I'm not sure if I understand your question. My structure is in the main post. That's exactly how my paths are.
June 1, 201610 yr your folders beneath the share folder started on disk 1. unraid is trying to keep all the items on disk 1 because of your split level decision (share + 1 sub folder). if you want it to split more, you need to change your folder splitting options
June 1, 201610 yr Community Expert I'm not sure if I understand your question. My structure is in the main post. That's exactly how my paths are. You gave the structure, but not examples of folders and files that you believe are going to the 'wrong' disk.

Keeping all folders under Movies and all folders under TV on the same disk.

With the given structure a Movie folder or a TV Series folder is contained to a single disk, but new Movies or TV Series folders should be able to go to another disk.

I'm pretty sure it's the case that unRAID is doing that. What I think we need to know is moved the data, because it could have created the folder structure before filing in the movies or TV shows.

I created the Library share, then inside of it I created Movies and TV. I used scp to transfer all the movies from one server to another.
June 1, 201610 yr Community Expert How may shares do you have? There's a TV share with split 3 on your diags, and what looks like a Movies share with split 2, if you're copying to these split level is not configure correctly for what you want.
June 2, 201610 yr So you want your movies and TV folders to go accross multiple disks (level 2) but 1 movie or 1 TV show to be on one disk? Imho that is ok for movies, but some TV shows seem to keep going forever and at some point that disk will be full. I have a similar setup where my top level is media and it even includes audio. But so far I haven't filled my disks yet to be a problem. But I know it will come.

June 2, 201610 yr Community Expert Don't know about scp, but I have used rsync between my servers and I have seen rsync create all the folders before actually creating the files in the folders. If this happens, then the destination is determined before any files are actually written.

That's my misunderstanding then Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk if you want everything split evenly without restricting what folder gets placed on what drive, you need to set it to be "Automatically split any directory as required" right now, the way you have the share setup is that the top level (share) and the folder under it need to be on the same drive. Since you created the folder before moving any data, the system wants to keep everything on disk 1.
