You need to do this in your router, assuming you only care about what is going to the internet.  If you want to to monitor internal traffic also, then you will need software on each host plus a central piece of software that polls the monitoring software on the device. 

 

Alternatively, you may be able to monitor the traffic flows on a smart switch and retrieve the counts using a utility such as PRTG.
