I am making my life harder not easier

Thought it would post here as this is just a general discussion about issues I'm facing with introducing a second unraid machine and the troubles I am having with downloading and accessing 2nd machine for some reason.

So lets start from the beginning. See sig for Rig 1 HP N40L was my first step into the world of unraid. Single machine, decent speeds, but not very powerful plex but great for storing data.

I used to download on my windows machine and then copy paste over to my unraid share.

Eventually decided to get a 2nd machine and run plex, dockers etc and automate downloads. But for some reason when I try to RDP to my windows machine I cant access the 2nd machine but can access the first one. There is a difference in version but settings all look the same.

Also by downloading on the faster 2nd machine the whole process of getting the data to my 1st machine is longer as I found out yesterday. Ended up having to us MC to transfer the folders over as I cant get sab to download directly to 1st machine.

Any input would be great. Thinking should I run sab cp sb on machine 1 instead of machine 2.

Also got openvpn-as running but seems to be very slow not any faster than the built in version in my router

Have you checked that the two machines have their own unique IP addresses and their own unique network names?  Duplication at either of these levels can lead to unpredictable results when trying to use the network.

Both have static ips

So I have the following:

192.168.1.1 = Router

192.168.1.2 = Windows 10 Desktop

192.168.1.3 = SERVER

192.168.1.4 = TOWER

oddly I just downgraded TOWER to 6.1.9 as I don't need dual parity etc and noticed all my dockers disappeared. Addded plex again but now showing as App Name modest_ritchie

Still having same networking issue when I use RDP. I can access from LAN but not from WAN

Plugins - check for updates - install the webUI update will probably fix some of that

Plugins all up to date, if remove docker and image my plex data is safe so I can quickly reconfigure it.

But my major issue is not being able to access TOWER from RDP (WAN) reason I need to do this is simply because iv moved house but all my hardware is at my folks. So just use a laptop to connect

Sorted the plex issue, deleted and created docker again. So thanks @Squid for that.

Now to tackle 2 other issues, first one being cant accces TOWER 192.168.1.4 on windows machine that I RDP to. Shows up in Networks as does SERVER 192.168.1.3 but I cant access it no matter what. Both having same settings except that TOWER has bonded ip connection.

Other issue is how do I automate downloads on TOWER using CP SAB etc but instead of directly being saved to a share on tower which only has 120gb have them download directly to /mnt/disks/192.168.1.3_Downloads and is this the best method or should I let it download locally then figure out somehow to move it later?

What I like a SAB is that it maxes out my connection compared to when using windows newsleecher app. Which im paying a silly amount and dont use any supersearch etc.

For the sab thing use unassigned devices in your download server to mount your movies share on your storage server.  Then use appropriate host and container mappings on sab and tell it to move those files.  It'll get transferred directly to the other server.

If you're using 6.2 make sure the mapping is rw slave mode.  Of on 6.1.9 you've got to stop and restart the entire docker service to get it to recognize the ud moubt

I dont think I have this the wrong way round, but on machine 1 created share called downloads

Machine where sab is installed using unassigned devices mounted the share from machine 1 and put it in mappings and restarted docker.

Still no joy it just want to download to local machine not my data machine.

Stop of restart the docker service not just the container.  And make sure that you have sab set up correctly to use that path

Appears to be working got confused because of the folder names, so I just called the folders test and test-incomplete and it showed up fine.

Downloads are slightly slower over network to other machine but some tweaking might fix that.

Next is to get CP setup and Sickrage once I understand what they are

Tonight going to add 2nd nic to HP N40L and have 2GbE between my 2 unraid machines. Hopefully I have configured my switch correctly and everything works after updating the network settings.

I am having a quite a little journey with unraid and look forward to tweaking more and more to automate and create a super solid system.

Could anyone explain how I go about moving files that have been given permission unix/nobody or similar

This is folders created by sabnzbd, transmission etc

Could anyone explain how I go about moving files that have been given permission unix/nobody or similar

This is folders created by sabnzbd, transmission etc

from the command line, run chown and chmod

From the webGUI, install Fix Common Problems plugin (or update it) and then run Tools - Docker Safe New Permissions.

If you don't want to install Fix Common Problems, then from the GUI run Tools - New Permissions, but you may have issues with some docker apps afterwards

And then change the permissions setting within those applications to store its files with permission 0777
