Removing faulty disk and adding a new one. No Parity or Cache disk.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I got a hdd that stopped working(It had nothing important on it, because I had a feeling it would break down soon). This device was stored as disk1.

I had already a hdd that is working, which is disk2.

Ive now purchased a new disk, which I guess I should make as disk3(I would prefer to have it as disk1 though, for my ocd).

However, my array refuses to start due to disk1 missing, and Im unsure how to solve it. I do not have a parity disk yet, as I have no important data on the disks yet, but I am planning to add one later down the line when I can afford one.

Both hdds are 2 gig disks if that matters.

My question is: How can I add the new disk and remove the old one and still keep my disk2 data?

Ive tried that several times, and disk1 is still marked as missing under Main, so I cant start the array up. I can assign my new disk to disk3, but the old one is still expected to be in disk1

Maybe corrupt flash drive,  run chkdsk on a PC.
