June 7, 201610 yr Hello all, Long time lurker here... My system has been running for a long time and has been upgraded along the way... well 4 months ago I had a disk go bad and while I didnt have a 2tb disk to replace it with I had a 5tb disk handy. So the plan was to replace the parity drive with the 5tb and move the old to the array... I first rebuilt the parity to the 5tb and then rebuilt the 2tb that was replaced with the old parity drive... I followed the instructions here and all seemingly went well... I now have 10 2tb and 1 5tb in the array with a 5tb as parity... Issue is... the parity drive shows 100,000 errors once it passes the 2tb threshold... the 5tb in the array hasnt had a chance to reach get full yet... so the question is... can I trust the parity drive? or should I just rebuild it now that the array is stable?
June 8, 201610 yr Community Expert A few details missing from your description. Did you do the parity swap procedure or some other method? Was the new parity drive precleared? In any case if the drive SMART is OK just do a new parity sync and then a parity check should come back clean.
