Dropkick Murphy
I did do a search of the board before asking but I couldn't find anything useful. I'm running out of space on my server and wondering if I can upgrade to 6 TB drives. Version 5.0 Beta 14 14 total drives including cache CPU: AMD Sempron 145 Sargas MB: Asrock 880 GM-LE AM3 AMD RAID CARD: Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 PSU: SILVERSTONE Strider ST60F-PS 600W I heard someone talking about flashing the raid card with upgraded firmware to accommodate larger drives but I'm not sure how to do that. trurl
Yes it can, but why are you running a beta? You should at least upgrade to the stable v5.0.6. Actually you would get better support from the community if you went ahead and upgraded to v6. Quote Link to comment
garycase
Yes, it supports any size drive you want to use - 6TB, 8TB, 10TB, etc. As I presume you know you'll have to upgrade the parity drive first to use the larger drives. Quote Link to comment
Dropkick Murphy
To answer your question about upgrading versions...I built this thing in 2011 and it has been running 24/7 (almost) without incident since then so I never felt the need to mess with it. I did have one issue a while back while changing PSU's and adding extra drives. I was down for about a week while troubleshooting an issue and it turned out to be a faulty ICY DOCK 4 into 3 RAID Cage. So there are no issues with using 6TB drives on the Supermicro HBA then? I do understand that I need to upgrade the Parity drive first. Quote Link to comment
Dropkick Murphy
I found a great deal on some WD Blue drives, but I've always used Green. Are there any known issues with Blue? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Greens were discontinued, the new blues wdxxezrz replace them, they are the same disk now with a blue sticker. Quote Link to comment

Good to know, thanks. I bought 4 of them to get the ball rolling and then I'll slowly replace the others as needed. Quote Link to comment
