June 11, 201610 yr Hello, I have decided to finally build an unRAID system. This is my first NAS build and my first time posting to this forum, so if there is already a post on this subject please send me there. (And yes, I have tried finding an answer to my question by searching the existing forums) Intended Setup: My plan is to use this unRAID system primarily as a NAS for video editing. My main rig is an X99 based Windows 10 desktop that I use to do most of my editing. I have read all of the setup guides that I could find and am still not entirely sure if what I want to do is possible. I need a very fast connection to my main editing workstation, so I have bought a pair of Mellanox ConnectX-2 10GbE cards to get a direct connection between my main editing machine and the NAS. (Planning on following this_tutorial:_https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHiucyRYX_w) My goal is to also have the NAS accessible to the rest of the network over the motherboards dual gigabit NICS in teaming/link aggregation mode. Is it possible to have the NAS connected to 2 networks in this way? Also, is the below list of parts a good selection of parts for a NAS system that will do what I want? Parts: System Lenovo D20 workstation PC http://www.ebay.com/itm/172232210279 - CPU: XEON X5550 2.66Ghz Quad Core - RAM: 24GB ECC (Not sure what exact specs are) - NETWORK: Integrated Dual Gigabit Ethernet Mellanox ConnectX-2 10GbE http://www.ebay.com/itm/182134018473 - Cisco DAC 5-meter cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/182160652918 Hard Drives Parity: (1) 6TB NGST Deskstar NAS HDD Storage: (1) 1TB Lenovo HDD (Comes with system) (2) 1TB Lenovo HDD (Comes with system) (3) 1TB WD Caviar Black HDD (Have in a current system but am not using) (4) 1TB WD Caviar Black HDD (Have in a current system but am not using) (5) 6TB NGST Deskstar NAS HDD (6) 6TB NGST Deskstar NAS HDD Cache: (1) Intel 180GB SSD (From old laptop, not sure which model)
July 6, 201610 yr Author I am now running unRAID 6.2 beta23 and am mostly happy with it. Write speed is often lower than it should be with the SSD cache I have set up, but I will keep playing around with it until it works. (Or search/ ask for help elsewhere on the forum)
July 6, 201610 yr If you haven't yet install the Dynamix trim plugin or the ssd will be slower after some time.
