i7-6800K cores recognized by unraid for VMs?

Featured Replies

I'm about to upgrade my unraid system and I'm looking at the new 6-core intel i7-6800K... before I pull the trigger I just want to make sure that unraid will see and allow me to assign all 12 "cores" (given the multi-threading on that CPU) to various virtual machines?

Thank you!

Yep it will work perfectly and you will be able to assign cores as you want!

Only comment is that you should assign all cores to VMs if they are running all at the same time. unRAID will need at least 1-2 cores (depending on your needs)

Perfect, thanks for the quick reply!

Yes, your comment is well understood - I realize there are only 6 "real" cores to work with on this CPU and if I assign the two "threads" from the same core to different VMs and those VMs are running at the same time that is not ideal so I will definitely avoid that.  One full "real" core assigned to a single VMis the way to go... but with a CPU like this, for a VM I used to assign 4 NON-hyperthreaded cores, I can now probably get away with assigning only 2 hyperthreaded cores... gives a lot more flexibility and power to work with!
