Upgrading to 4.5

Featured Replies

I am currently running 4.2.4 and realized I am sorely outdated! It's been a while since I've really touched this software so I am trying to make sure I do this upgrade right. I am also not a Linux guy either.

Do I need to just follow the steps as if I were to reinstall from scratch? Will my current setup be maintained? Thanks for any help.

There are instructions in the 4.5 final thread (In the Announcements section of the forum) on how to upgrade from different versions of unRAID.  Just read through those and you should be good to go.

Thanks. Real quick though, do I just yank the flash drive and put those 2 files on it? Or do I need to spin down, stop array, shut down machine, then bring the flash drive here?

Don't remove the USB drive while the server is running.  Either stop array and shutdown as you suggest.  Or map the /flash share and copy the files over the network.  Then restart and 4.5 should be running.

Don't just yank the drive with the array running.  If you want to upgrade the files by physically moving the flash drive, then stop the array first.

However, you can do it all over the lan.

You can get to the flash drive in windows-file-explorer by typing the path

\\tower\flash

You don't need to stop the array to copy the files to the flash drive that way.  Just unzip the distributed files to a folder on your PC, then copy the bzroot and bzimage files from the unzip directory to the \\tower\flash folder.  You can even re-name the existing files to bzimage.old and bzroot.old first, so you can revert if need be simply by renaming them back.

One more thing, there is a new version of "memtest" in the distribution.  So... there are really three files to be copied to the flash drive.  (memtest is not needed to upgrade, but you will not have the most recent of memory test versions if you ever go to use it)
