Which Plex Media Server docker to use?

Featured Replies

I just realised we have 3 Plex Media Server docker, from LT, PhAze and needo.

What are the differences? Which one should I use?

I would use the LimeTech Plex version.

Docker > Add Container

Under templates, Look for LimeTech > PlexMediaServer

Actually, PhAzE is a plugin, not a docker. And I recommend the plex docker from LSIO, which you didn't list. As far as I know LT Plex doesn't support PlexPass and I'm not sure it even autoupdates. I don't think LT is putting much into their dockers at the moment.

Do you have Community Applications installed?

I didn't realise PhAzE is a plug in actually.  :o  What's the advantage of plugin instead of docker?

And what's the pros and cons between LSIO version and needo version?

And yes, I have CA installed - which is how I noticed multiple plex dockers.  ;D

I would say all the advantages go to docker instead of plugin, and dockers should be used instead of plugins when they are available. Some things that are very specific to unRAID, such as Community Applications, must be plugins, but any "standalone" apps with their own webUI should be installed as dockers.

LSIO is a developer community and the support and updates seem to be better. Plus they have a lot of different apps available with a common base which can help with keeping the docker img size more efficient.

Needo's works well but isn't maintained with the frequency of LSIO.  There are good reasons for a limited number of things to be plugins but most addin functionality under unRAID 6 is better off as a Docker including Plex.  LSIO or Binhex are good choices.

Please can I double check "LSIO" = "Linuxserver"?

I do envision to eventually need a Plex Pass so I think I'll be switching to the LSIO version.

LSIO = Linuxserver

It's because the domain is www.linuxserver.io
