June 18, 201610 yr Hello Guys, i read the thread about pinning CPU Cores for improve VM Performance. In some Games i have problem with Frame drops ect. Can you Guys help me with setup it. I didn't check everything. I have i7-5930k CPU and 2 VM (First GTX970 passthrough) (Second GTX980Ti passthough) Version: 6.1.9 CPU Pairs: 0/6 - Isolate for Unraid/Linux System 1/7 - Isolate for Unraid/Linux System 2/8 - VM1 3/9 - VM1 4/10 - VM2 5/11 - VM2 First Step edit the Syslinux configuration (I dont know witch file on flash drive i have to edit, mine file looks empty so i think its the wrong one. Can someone post his file (how it looks like)) "append isolcpus=2,3,4,5,8,9,10,11 initrd=/bzroot" <- There i have to put in ALL cores (of both VMs) ? Now assign the CPU Pairs to VM and isolate: VM1: <cputune> <vcpupin vcpu='0' cpuset='2'/> <vcpupin vcpu='1' cpuset='3'/> <vcpupin vcpu='2' cpuset='8'/> <vcpupin vcpu='3' cpuset='9'/> <emulatorpin cpuset='0,1,6,7'/> <- i dont now what i have to added there. I also have to added the Core of the SECOND VM or only the Cores i isolate for unRAID / Linux </cputune> VM2: <cputune> <vcpupin vcpu='0' cpuset='4'/> <vcpupin vcpu='1' cpuset='5'/> <vcpupin vcpu='2' cpuset='10'/> <vcpupin vcpu='3' cpuset='11'/> <emulatorpin cpuset='0,1,6,7'/> <- Same Question here </cputune> What do you thing of this ? Thanks guys for helping me!
June 18, 201610 yr You have several things in your configuration that may be causing problems. Set the machine type to i440fx-2.5. Boot the VM in OVMF, not seaBIOS. Your GPU must support UEFI boot. Cut the memory down to 6 or 8 GB to start with and increase later once your VM is operating properly if necessary. Turn on Hyper-V. Just pinning CPUs is not enough and is probably not your issue yet. Don't mess with CPU pinning until you have your VM running as I have specified above. You will probably not get decent VM performance until you have done these things. You might not have to pin the CPUs.
June 18, 201610 yr Author Thanks for answering me! - Set the machine type to i440fx-2.5. - Boot the VM in OVMF, not seaBIOS. I tested Firestrike Extreme before 4708 on Bare Metal 4498 on VM with 10 Threads. I thought the result is okay I didnt think about there are so many settings wrong :D Thanks i will test of your edits asap!

Probably the most important thing is to boot the VM in OVMF and use a UEFI compatible GPU. You can't switch this on a configured VM. You'll have to make a new VM with OVMF boot. Do things slowly checking your performance as you go. I would start with no more than 4 CPUs (2 pairs) and no more than 8 GB of memory. Over provisioning CPUs and memory can degrade performance. Frame drops are not generally from too little memory or CPUs, it is generally a latency problem in your network, CPU context switching, background tasks taking CPU resources, etc.
June 18, 201610 yr Author I wanted to create a new VM. But i440fx-2.3 is the highest i can setup. There is no option for i440fx-2.5? Whats wrong ?

June 19, 201610 yr Author I created a new VM. Windows task manager shows that my SSD always at 100% while 1mb/s transfering... This also was at the old VM... What is the reason of this. When i do a ssd speedtest it runs with 400mb/s....
