VM for gaming over multiple devices (not simultaneously)

Featured Replies

Just had a thought on something, but I am not entirely sure whether or not it is possible.

I've had UnRaid for a few years now, but never run any VMs as I haven't had the need.

I used to game a lot in the past, but currently have a Macbook Air so am fairly limited on the games I can play. Is there something I could do with VM that would allow me to:

1) Stream games to my Macbook and play them from there.

2) Stream games to my TV (with an nVidia Shield or similar - currently have an NUC running Kodi if I could use that).

3) Steam games to a Raspberry Pi or similar hooked up to a monitor.

I wouldn't use any at the same time but would be for various different use cases, I might play a racing game whilst sat on the sofa. But boot up the Raspberry Pi on the monitor to play an FPS.

Is what I want achievable at all?

Been reading in to this a little more and seems I should be able to do what I want with Steam In Home Streaming.

I'll need to work out the hardware I'll need now.

Steam works fine in a Windows vm on unraid. I did it just to test (I don't own any games on there but tried a couple demos)

Linus tech tips also used unraid to build a server where 8 people could play games simultaneously through steam in home streaming off of one server (it had 8 gpus)

I ruin a Windows 10 VM with Steam.  I stream to my Samsung 4K TV via Steam Link.  Kids have Steam client on both of their laptops and I occasionally stream to a Linux Desktop.  Works flawlessly.
