June 24, 201610 yr Hi all had a look, sure this has been answered before but can't find a solution, so apologies if it's a common question been running unraid for several years. never bothered keeping on the upgrade path as it was stable. so i believe i was running version 5. anyway, don't ask how, but i managed to wipe my usb stick. was having a few crashes, was told repairing in windows might fix it, so had stick on the desk and it got formatted, with no backup stupid stupid stupid. i know, deserve any abuse i get. so had to download v6. installed on stick. rebooted, starting up fine, but all my disks are coming up as unassigned. looks like i need to assign them, but issue is i'm not sure which disc was my parity disk. lot of stuff on there i don't want to lose. have backups of the important stuff but not everything anything i can do to save as much as possible? thanks in advance
June 24, 201610 yr If you assign all the disks as data, and only 1 of them comes up as unmountable, then that one is your parity disk.
June 24, 201610 yr Community Expert Just be sure that you have only *one* disk shown as being unmountable and that you did not have a cache drive with version 5. Now, after you get it running. First, made screen prints of all the GUI settings pages and put them in a notebook. Second, after you complete the parity check, stop the array and copy the contents of your flash drive to another computer. Third, here is a link to the upgrade WIKI. Check there first if you have a question and if you don't find the answer there, ask here. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrading_to_UnRAID_v6
June 25, 201610 yr Author Thanks guys. Set them all as data discs. One was unmountable. Now I know which is my parity. Never had a cache disc so that's not an issue. However now I set that disc to parity the array is complaining about missing discs . Is there a way to reset the array so I can reassign which disc is which?
June 25, 201610 yr Community Expert Tools > New Config. You'll have to reassign all disks, recommend doing a parity check after, it's normal for it to find a few sync errors after what you did.
June 25, 201610 yr Just a FYI In upcoming version is added a "Preset current configuration" option, which allows to reset the array and pre-populate the slots with the current assignments.

That's a very good addition, it will save some work but most importantly prevent many mistakes.

Would it be possible to check for mountable file systems on any disks selected for parity and show a LARGE warning "ALL DATA ON THIS DISK WILL BE ERASED IF YOU CONTINUE"?
June 26, 201610 yr Author let me just say thanks so much to all who helped, great community here. back up and running, and i really appreciate all the help folks. thanks so much
