Failing Disk?

Featured Replies

Do I start this by stopping the array?

Yes, and only if the disks are unassigned, super.dat should be updated when you stop the array, unless there's a problem writing to the flash drive.

Array is stopped, on dash board tab says parity is invalid! Disk 10 has a red x. But a green balloon top right that says,

unRAID array errors: 02-07-2016 13:00

Notice [TOWER] - array turned good

Array has 0 disks with read errors

All disks are assigned their original slots

Check super.dat for size bigger than 0, but it should be ok.

You still need to rebuild disk10:

-stop array

-unassign disk10 (select “no device”)

-start array, confirm the emulated disk 10 mounts OK and all data is there

-stop array

-reassign disk10

-start array to begin rebuild

Sorry newbie question, where do I check super.dat file, it's location?

Thanks

  • Community Expert

\\tower\flash\config\super.dat

  • Author

super.dat size 4kb

  • Community Expert

That's the normal size, proceed with the rebuild.

Deep breath, here we go!

  • Community Expert

Also a good idea to backup your flash in case something like this happens in the future, backup should be done with the array stopped.

Copy everything on \\tower\flash to another PC.

There was a task you mentioned about, very important, before starting array check “parity is already valid, is this true from the info I've given you?

  • Community Expert

Because super.dat is now OK and the disks stayed assigned it's not needed, you only need to do the steps I posted above today.

Is there a simple way of copying the contents of  he flash drive to another location?

johnnie.black, I cannot thank you enough for your help & patience!  Thanks to all the others who have replied!

I'll post again when & if the rebuild goes ok.

You can use the Community Applications plugin, now includes a flash backup option.

After 22 hours to rebuild the contents of disk 10 6tb, all is good again!

Huge thanks to RobJ, johnnie.black & all the people who took the time to help with replies, I thought I was toast. I've learned a lot.

I'll have to get hold of a small ups for the router. The switch is on the same ups as the server. Both on a completely different circuit/mcb from the rest of the house.

The community plugin is going to take some looking at, there's a lot there.

Is it worth upgrading to 6.19, I'm on 6.18, is it an easy upgrade?

Thanks

Its included with CA  Look in Settings - CA Settings - Backup Appdata  (but check for updates to CA first)

App data share, nothing to select. I selected a new folder to backup flash drive, apply stays greyed out. leave things default click backup now & status shows not running!

Because your appdata has files / folders existing on the array, so CA backup will not let you continue because the integrity of the restore can be compromised.  (or you're not running any docker apps, in which case the entire module won't work for you)

I enabled docker & i think I enabled air video hd. under apps, media servers, it says its not running? I don't where to look?

I have air video hd running on a vm, works fine!

Still under Appdata Share (Source): I've nothing to select!

Go into Backup Appdata.  Then hit the log button in the top right of the screen.  The reasons for sources not appearing will be displayed.

I hadn't enabled storage for the docker. Now not sure what port settings to use for air video. Still can't enable appdata share source for backup
