hawihoney
Good morning and a happy new year. Whenever I issue a "Short SMART test" from within unMENU this seems to be interruped. Any ideas what may cause this: SMART Self-test log structure revision number 0 Warning: ATA Specification requires self-test log structure revision number = 1 Num Test_Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error # 1 Short offline Interrupted (host reset) 90% 8921 - Jan 2 08:43:35 Tower kernel: ata11.01: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0 frozen Jan 2 08:43:35 Tower kernel: ata11.01: cmd b0/d4:00:01:4f:c2/00:00:00:00:00/10 tag 0 Jan 2 08:43:35 Tower kernel: res 40/00:00:01:4f:c2/00:00:00:00:00/10 Emask 0x4 (timeout) Jan 2 08:43:35 Tower kernel: ata11.01: status: { DRDY } Jan 2 08:43:35 Tower kernel: ata11.00: hard resetting link Jan 2 08:43:36 Tower kernel: ata11.01: hard resetting link Jan 2 08:43:38 Tower kernel: ata11.00: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300) Jan 2 08:43:38 Tower kernel: ata11.01: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300) Jan 2 08:43:38 Tower kernel: ata11.00: configured for UDMA/133 Jan 2 08:43:38 Tower kernel: ata11.01: configured for UDMA/133 Jan 2 08:43:38 Tower kernel: ata11: EH complete Many thanks in advance. wholly
Joe's response was kind of lost in the quote. Spin down of drives will interrupt short/long tests. You probably want to disable your spindown for the duration of the test. Rob Quote Link to comment
hawihoney
Thanks for your answers. I do not understand this behaviour. The steps I did: 1.) Spin-up drive from within unMENU 2.) Issue short SMART test from within unMENU 3.) 15 minutes later i see similar lines in SMART report and syslog. The drive should spin-down after two hours and not within 15 minutes. What's wrong with my environment/drives? hawihoney
It's unRAID 4.5. Thanks Harald Quote Link to comment
Joe L.
It's unRAID 4.5. Thanks Harald No version of unMENU that I've distributed thus far uses the "spinup" commands that unRAID 4.5 currently uses. In fact, unMENU spins up by reading from the raw devices, so odds are unRAID has no idea the drives have been spun up at all. Therefore, when it goes to see if it is time to "spin down" a drive, it probably just spins it down, as it knows of no activity. Here are two replacement plug-in files for array and disk management. (attached to this post) Please let me know if they work better. Un-zip to the same folder with all your other unMENU files. When un-zipped and put into place they will overwrite and replace the old 08-unmenu-array_mgmt.awk and 09-unmenu-disk_mgmt.awk files. Joe L. Quote Link to comment
hawihoney
Hi Joe, yes, the replacement scripts work perfect. Thanks a lot.
