[Solved] Syslog Full - Is it ok to Zero the file?

Featured Replies

Hey,

My I have been moving some files around with MC and using the cache mover which created a lot of logs in Syslog. Reading though it all I have confirmed that it there is no errors and its just the moving of files that is creating the large file size.

Is there any harm in running following command to zero out the file? or should I just keep increasing the log size (currently at 384~mb)

cat /dev/null > syslog

Go to settings, scheduler, and change mover logging to disabled. Then search for RobJ's post about truncating the log file for the correct command to run to cut your file down to size. It would be better not to zero the file without saving a copy first, it can be helpful if you run into issues to have the initial portion of the file where all the setup is recorded, and any initial errors.
