I wish i hadnt tried to upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello,

i have been running unraid 4.33 for some time now and it has been perfect. i tried upgrading today and now my unraid server will not boot. i copied over the two files as per the instructions and the error i receive is attached. In a panic i tried going back to 433 and i fear i may have messed something up now.

I have tried removing all the files off of the usb stick and only trying to boot with the basic install but i continue to get errors.

i know the picture isn't the greatest quality, but if anything jumps out at you I thank you in advance for your help.

if i can just get back to 433 i would be very happy.

based on my current lack of sleep i should have left this until tomorrow, but i just couldn't. i backed up all of files off the usb stick and then formatted and tried to start from scratch. i had no luck with 433 so i am now trying 442 and everything seems to go ok but then i end up with this error : <0> kernel panic - not syncing invalid compressed format (err=1)

i will keep looking at this< but just wanted to update with latest progress. thanks.

It's always best to make periodic backups of your flash drive, so you can revert easily and safely.

The 'invalid compressed format' error you received makes me wonder if you got a corrupted download.  Try again and check the MD5 for it, available on the Release Notes page.

Also when updating from that far back, a number of users found that they had to update the boot files on the USB flash, by using a newer syslinux.exe.  See the bottom of the USB Flash Drive Preparation page, where it mentions the syslinux version.

Your data and array should be fine, unchanged and uncorrupted.

Can you attach a copy of your syslinux.cfg file, from your flash drive?  Also make sure that the flash file system is clean, by running Scandisk or Check disk on it from a Windows machine.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried virtually everything I can think of including re downloading all the files again and reformatting my usb stick each time I try I different version. I am still getting various different errors each time I try it, but each time I try the latest version I still get a kernel panic. I am on the way to Memory Express right now to get a new USB stick just to eliminate my usb stick as a problem. I have also tried removing all of my RAM sticks and checking them one a time (as a few posts I read mentioned Ram as a potential problem) but they all checked out ok.

So if the new stick doesn't work I am not sure what to do next........but I will jump off that bridge when I come to it. :)

Thanks for your help.

p.s. I will upload the file as soon as I return, however I have no custom entries and I have only been trying to use the standard file

Update:

New USB Stick has fixed my problem, and my server now boots properly. Of course now I have a licensing problem, so is my only option to now buy another license?

Thanks for the help.

p.s This is the stick that I bought http://store.lexar.com/?productid=JDFF4GB-431

Email Tom (limetech) and inform him of the situation.  Point him to this thread and let him know what has happened.  The usual response to this is that he will issue a new license for the new flash drive.
