Super NOOB Questions

Ok.

Is there an OS installed on the server?...xp ect?

Is the server plugged into a router? for wireless access?

If so, how do i access my server files (play a movie) if there is no OS installed?

Does the server have a keyboard, mouse, display attached? or is everything accessed from another computer?

......Ok, OK, stop laughing....this is all new grounds for me. I build my own gaming rigs, but servers are a new book.

thanks

unRAID's OS is a Linux distro.  The OS boots from the flash drive, so it isn't stored on any of the data drives.

It needs to be on your network if it's to be useful.  It's connection to the network has to be wired (unless you are really industrious).

The server disks & shares appear as any other network shared folders on your Windows (or other box).  You can map drives, etc.

Some people have headless setups.  I personally have mine on a KVM, so I have access to administer it directly.  All of the administration can be done remotely either via the internet browser interface or through telnet.
