July 10, 20169 yr So I am currently trying to switch my cache drive from HDD to SSD. Although I cannot get my unRAID to boot properly so I can access the GUI. For example, I had renamed my server from Tower to UNRAID. Without the SSD plugged in everything works great and I am prompted with "UNRAID login:" after bootup. When I attach my SSD "UNRAID login:" becomes "Tower login:" and the GUI does not work. I am given a IP address but nothing shows up. I can also unplug all data/cache drives and leave my SSD plugged in and this still occurs. I've tried leaving all data drives and disconnecting my cache HDD, with SSD plugged in and this happens. Am I missing something when it comes to adding/removing drives?
July 10, 20169 yr Community Expert It sounds as if somehow the SSD is interfering with the USB stick. The symptoms make it sound as if after the boot completes the USB stick is no longer being seen so you revert to default settings. If you log in at the console and issue a df command, does it show the USB stick mounted as /boot ? You can also try typing diagnostics at the boot prompt to create the diagnostics ZIP file. Normally this would be put into /boot/logs. However if the USB stick is not being mounted correctly then this location will be in RAM and you will have to take some positive action to copy it elsewhere.
July 11, 20169 yr Author So I've tried "df" command and it does not show the USB being mounted. Good news though! I decided to try and format the SSD on my macbook, via USB,(the SSD was previously installed on a windows machine with games installed) and UNRAID booted perfectly fine. Now what is the best way to make the transfer of my cache drive data?
