July 10, 20169 yr Hi guys, I'm trying to consolidate several iTunes & mp3s into one location. I have most of my Music stored on my UnRaid (V6.1.9) Share = Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music, that I sorta created from many moons ago. However, I just imported a new CD to my iTunes library and it placed it into the Share = Music not into the subdirectories as noted above. If I go to my iTunes preferences it only allows "/Volumes/Music". Since I have a share named Music, I think it chooses to truncate any further option. Ultimately, I would like to "clean-up" all of my music and have looked at a couple of Dockers and/or Music Streamers that could be supported on UnRaid, but am not sure what is the best method of placing my Library into Albums, Genre, Artist, Playlist, etc. I know I have duplicates and even multiple places where my music is stored, but it would seem prudent to get it all into one location and fix it one time if possible. Suggestions welcomed! Dave
July 10, 20169 yr I use Media Monkey from my workstation to manage my music collection. It is very good with organisation e.g. into folders. In term of streaming, I use Plex but then to be honest, I only used it once so far this year.
July 10, 20169 yr I spent a long time tagging all my music and embedding the artwork using mp3tag but I'm glad I did... I migrated away from itunes and also used Media Monkey to sync my wife's iPod, in the end I went back to iTunes. I actually have all my music on my Unraid box and sync it one way using syncthing to my wifes laptop's itunes folder. I then use a program to add it to the library there (It scans the folder and automatically updates the database - unfortunately I can't remember the name) I also use Plex to stream my music via Chromecast, but have used Madsonic, Subsonic and Logitech Media Server in the past. Beets i believe is also a very powerful cmd line tool to tag and sort music, but I confess I've never bothered to learn it, to add an album now when my wife buys a new CD is no massive issue, however if I had to start from scratch I'd probably give it a look over.
July 11, 20169 yr Author Thanks Testdasi/CHBMB for the suggestions! I have a whole house audio system but have never been able to easily put my music into one of the ports even though I have a couple of Apple TV's and an AirPlay device. Somehow, something this routine should be relatively easy, but seemingly NOT! My current iTunes library on UnRaid is ~ 30GB (almost actually ) too massive to be useful. I think the "key" it not so much where it is stored or how its arranged but how to easily create PlayLists that can be used. It's got to be easy cause my spouse can't seem to do anything past 2 steps ! Not that I'm much better . Dave
July 11, 20169 yr I use the daapd docker to run an "iTunes" music server on my unRaid box. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=44210.0 I can control it by using my iPhone (Remote App) and it will play to multiple Airplay receivers and keep them all in sync so I have whole house audio. I use a Shairport app on my Windows computer to make it an Airplay receiver. I use Shairport running on 2 Raspberry Pi devices connected to powered speakers to make them Airplay receivers. My Yamaha Receiver in my family room has Airplay functionality. And I have Apple TV devices connected to a couple TVs in the house. I have 8 total zones that I can stream music to. I can play music to any or all of the devices at the same time, with all the zones in sync and the ability to control each volume level independently or simultaneously, all from my iPhone or iPad. And I don't have to keep the iPhone connected, it just interfaces to control what is playing when I want to change something (i.e. skip a song).
