device disabled, contents emulated (?)

Featured Replies

Just noticed one of my disks is disabled and the contents are being emulated. SMART passes fine so I've got no idea what to do to fix this at this point. I already tried a reboot...  :o

Doing an extended test now. Can try swapping bays, maybe. Otherwise... not sure. Maybe do a preclear and then somehow rebuild the array?

I just had this happen to me when I click spin down :/.  I ended up doing a new config and fix it.  But remember the order the drives go in

A new config will force all data written to the drive slot after it was disabled to be lost. The proper way to fix it is to rebuild the drive, either to a new disk or if you are sure the old disk is good, rebuild back to it. You are guaranteed to lose data if you do a new config. It may not be important data, but it's gone nonetheless.

I'm no expert and don't want to give bad info.  Just thought I'd share how I fix mine. Best of luck

SMART was fine and the rebuild seems fine too. Weird.
