Hello Guys,

Can you guys check my settings ?

Whats wrong with these settings / what i have to change ://

I did 2 gameplay videos.

First on native win10:

Second on VM win10

Can you please help me to fix these problems?

Are there any CPU / Network lags ?

Thank you guys!

Update: nothing changed with disabling /enabling Hyper-V and Hyper Threading!

You will never get the same performance from your vm as bare metal.

Remember the bare metal is using all 6 cores of your  5930k

Each vm is using 2 cores of the 5930k

You maybe able to tune the vm a bit though.

On first vm edit xml as below

<cputune>
    <vcpupin vcpu='0' cpuset='2'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='1' cpuset='3'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='2' cpuset='8'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='3' cpuset='9'/>
  <emulatorpin cpuset='0,6/>
  </cputune>

on second edit xml as below

<cputune>
    <vcpupin vcpu='0' cpuset='4'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='1' cpuset='5'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='2' cpuset='10'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='3' cpuset='11'/>
  <emulatorpin cpuset='1,7/>
  </cputune>
As you have 6 cores and are using a total of 4 for your vms you have 2 spare (although will be used for host too) but what the above is doing <emulatorpin cpuset='0,6/> and <emulatorpin cpuset='1,7/> is pinning the

emulation calls for each vm on one of the spare cores. Please read this thread for more info http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=49051.0

Also i would setup vm as ovmf instead of seabios. Unfortunately this will mean a total reinstall of those vms as you cant switch from seabios to ovmf

Thanks for Info.

At first i will try again with 10 thread this evening. than i will see if the cpu is to bad for this.

Do you have any problems with you 14 core cpu ?

After this i will rebuild the vm wirhout seabios and with emulator pin! :)

What benefits does the OVMF Bios yield over SeaBios?

What benefits does the OVMF Bios yield over SeaBios?

Better performance, efi support (no legacy support, you might have to reinstall your OS) and iirc better hardware passthrough support.

EDIT: I think its possible to convert a legacy windows install to efi https://encrypted.google.com/#q=windows%20convert%20to%20efi

Back up all your data before trying it!!!

Now i tested with these setting:

</memoryBacking>
  <vcpu placement='static'>10</vcpu>
  <cputune>
    <vcpupin vcpu='0' cpuset='1'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='1' cpuset='2'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='2' cpuset='3'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='3' cpuset='4'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='4' cpuset='5'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='5' cpuset='7'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='6' cpuset='8'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='7' cpuset='9'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='8' cpuset='10'/>
    <vcpupin vcpu='9' cpuset='11'/>
    <emulatorpin cpuset='0,6'/>
  </cputune>

No difference between 5C/10T and 2C/4T ://

Next step will be new machine with OVMF Bios

Whats the Matter?

2.JPG.3bc13149d99029d907a1772d4819cdfb.JPG

 • Author

So now i rebuild both VM's with OVMF Bios.

I updated to unRAID 6.2 rc3

i tried to setup the VM with:

2C/4T

4C/8T

5C/10T

nothing chanced.

I tested isolcpus and emulatorpins.

I tested Hyperthreading on and off.

Nothing chanced.

The only thing which is mystery. The task manager shows always 100% on my SSD.

And the DPC Checker shows red....

this is my VM ATM:

So now i rebuild both VM's with OVMF Bios.

I updated to unRAID 6.2 rc3

i tried to setup the VM with:

2C/4T

4C/8T

5C/10T

nothing chanced.

I tested isolcpus and emulatorpins.

I tested Hyperthreading on and off.

Nothing chanced.

The only thing which is mystery. The task manager shows always 100% on my SSD.

And the DPC Checker shows red....

this is my VM ATM:

<topology sockets='1' cores='2' threads='2'/>

Try to change the above line to the below.

<topology sockets='1' cores='4' threads='1'/>

There is as far as I know no performance gain to use more than one thread. It might weaken the performance.

The DPC-Problem are much better without writing emulaturpins into the XML!

The other stuff i'll test tomorrow

What Nvidia drivers are you using? There is a known DPC Latency bug in older Nvidia drivers. I'm not certain if that only impact the 1060, 1070, 1080 series or if it also impact the 9x0 series.

Hello Guys,

a few days ago i update to 6.2.0-rc2 to fix my ingame frame drops.

I hoped that 6.2.0 will fix all performance problems but mine are still there.

Can you guys check my settings ?

Whats wrong with these settings / what i have to change ://

MY SYSTEM:

INTEL Core i7-5930K

Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB @ 2666Mhz

Asus GTX 980 ti Strix

Asus GTX 970 Strix

ASUS Essence STX II

Asus ROG Rampage V Extreme

Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500 GB

Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500 GB

unRAID 6.2.0-rc2

enclosed setting screenshots

I think it's not your CPU or GPU performance slow, maybe the network.

I played the Diablo III too, the network can made game drop frames, not only CPU and GPU.

maybe you can change the nic type

qemu: Supported NIC models: ne2k_pci,i82551,i82557b,i82559er,rtl8139,e1000,pcnet,virtio

mainboard nic I don't have try?but I have a 4 nic card (Intel I350-T4) passthrough to VM.

maybe you can set nic to E1000

I think there is something wrong setup with my SSD's or my Network. My CPU chills all time...

I think there are wrong settings on my vm's.

I have

1x 500GB 850 PRO

1x 500GB 850 EVO

1x 128GB SSD Cache

how can i get the beste performance ?

all SSD in cache pool and install win10 on cache ?

each VM gets one SSD (i thought i did this).

But if i do benchmark one my first VM the second gets slower too...

can you look at my disk settings something is wrong... :/

I also have Problems with my network

i have two usb 3.0 to gigabit

first : https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00NPJV4YY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

second : https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

when im assaining the first device to the vm (usb device) windows starts without any problems. But i cant connect to my unRAID webgui anymore.

Does unRAID also switch ethernet access with plugin a new ethernet device ?

unRAID should use the onboard device....

anyone knows?

Could I ask how you got OVMF to work on the R5E? Everytime I try I get no graphic output on the screen although if I use VNC I just get a shell.
