I am looking to build a single tower unRAID machine, which will act as primarily a NAS and also as my 4K desktop. please suggest hardware configuration based on my below usage

 

NAS setup & usage

 

1) Will be on for 24/7

2) Preferably less electricity consumption

3) will have cache and parity drive for sure

4) case should have option for 2 SSD and 4 to 8 SATA drives

5) Mostly NAS will store video files

6) video files will be 99% accessed locally (same network, both wired and wifi)

 

Desktop

 

1) 4k Display

2) Normal browsing

3) Streaming, youtube & other source (Including from local NAS)

 

Other Features required

 

1) MB should support network teaming

2) Mostly used in parallel with Desktop and one streaming device (home theater or smartv or smart phone or a TAB)

3) Support for transcoding (occasionally, stream from internet)

4) Less noise, good cooling system (no water cooling)

5) Small form factor, occupy less space

 

 

 

Perhaps you can find some potential hardwares and we can point out if it would work? 

 

Cuz I'm not seeing anyone on the forum finding the time to find the exact hardware that would suit your exact use case (and get into trouble later if things don't quite work as expected). We are nice, but we are probably not that nice.

Have you seen Thoughts on Lian-Li PC-Q25B Builds?

 

I have a Parts Picker link for what I am looking at right now on post #181 that sounds like what you want, New Unraid NAS. My dilemma is if I want more than 1 PCI slot, which means a different case, MB and power supply.
