Share with Most Free allocation, Unraid writes to disk with least free space

Featured Replies

I'm having problems copying any data to a share on my unRAID server.  My server has 6 drives (2TB Parity, 5x1TB data).  One disk had 5KB free, the others have between 35 and 50GB free.  The share in questions allocation method is set to Most Free.  When I attempt to copy 5GB of data from a windows machine, unRAID spins up the parity drive, and the drive with 5KB free, and none of the others.  unRAID then appears to write part of the first file being copied as the 5KB free space now shows 0 KB free, then returns an error to Windows.  On Windows 7 and Window XP it's reported that there is not enough free space (It tells me that I need 5GB free space and there is only 175GB free  ???).

Has anyone seen this issue before?  Any ideas on how to resolve it?  I'm happy to provide any other information that would help, just let me know.  Thanks in advance.

Edit...One thing to add is that there is no split level set on the share (nor has there ever been).

This might be the reason : unRAID will not create a folder with the same name on the other disks.

So, if you try to copy a file in, let's says, a folder named 'toto' and that folder only exist on disk 1, unRAID will not create it on disk 2 without a correct split level.

Try to create the folder on disk 2 manually and see if this time the transfert works correctly.

Thanks, that fixed the problem.  Was thinking that no split level meant unRAID would spread files/folders across all discs.
