Trying to pass through single Radeon 7770

Featured Replies

Based on the W10 licensing thread I believe I'm safe so long as I activate W10 before the deadline and keep the UUID on file... but I'd like to resolve my hardware issues if I could to be safe.

I have a Sapphire Radeon 7770GE I'd like to put in my unraid box. It was slated to be the 2nd GPU with a non-gaming one in the first PCI-E slot however I have 2 disk controllers preventing a dual slot card from living in either the 2nd or 3rd PCI-E x16 slots.

Eventually, the solution will be to get a single 8-port controller I can tuck into the third slot, but until then, I was hoping to get passthrough working with the single card in the first slot.

So far, I created the VM, started it and am staring at a blank screen. No blinking cursor, nothing. Monitor is asleep. I'm doing as much reading as I can but time is running out to get this running or give up and activate my non-passthrough copy of Win10.

Edit: At this point in the game, I think I'm going to forget it and just try to activate my first VNC install. I'm starting to suspect that the 7770 doesn't support UEFI based on threads I've been reading with "Domain id=2 is tainted: high-privileges

Domain id=2 is tainted: host-cpu" errors I'm seeing.

Edit 2: Well, went back to my first install, vnc with no GPU passthrough and seabios. Activated that. In hindsight, maybe I should have created a new one with OVMF and no passthrough just as a better base to work from. Anyway, mission mostly successful for tonight.

OVMF is your best choice, My GPU is PowerColor PCS+ R9 290X?passthrough with OVMF.
