Re: unRAID Server Release 6.2.0-rc2 issues

The RC2 thread has been closed, but I am still looking for some help on issues surfaced during upgrade from 6.1.9 to 6.2RC2. Please see below:

*** I got it working again by changing two things:

*** * Settings / VM Manager / Default network bridge - switched from virbr0 to br0

*** *  VM / MyVM / Edit / Network bridge switched from vibr0 to br0

*** So, things are working again. Thanks for your help along the way.

*** Leaves me with two questions though:

*** 1) Is it required / better to switch both options from vibr0 to br0?

*** 2) I now have a folder "\system\libvirt" on disk1 (in the array, not on the cache or flash disk), which I don't think I had before? is this normal behavior with the new 6.2 release?

I would really to get rid of the system folder from the array and move it to the cache drive. Can I just change the link or do I need to copy the actual files (my question 2 above). Interested in answers on both issues though.

The setting "Default network bridge" is used to preset any newly created VM with the desired selection. If you choose 'br0' then any new VM gets initially 'br0' as setting, which can be changed in the configuration of the VM itself ("Network Bridge").

Whether you need/want virbr0 or br0 depends on how you want the VM to operate. With virbr0 it runs "protected" with automatic DHCP/DNS assignment and only outgoing connections are possible, while br0 gives full access, but requires your own DHCP/DNS setup.

The folder "/system/libvirt" was created when you changed the VM settings. If you want to change its location then stop the VM manager, change the location of "Libvirt storage location" and manually move the folder to the desired location and restart the VM manager.

Ps. don't use your flash device as storage location.

Thanks for your quick reply. A few questions:

* What makes you think I am using the flash device for storage? I don't think, I do?

* I used to use virb0 when using Unraid 6.1.9. Unfortunately, Internet no longer worked inside the VM (Win10) since upgrading to 6.2.0RC2. I can access my VM over the network, but no Internet. After changing the setting to br0, this issue is solved. Reading below, I don't know though whether that's the right change?

* So, I will need to copy the system folder over the network from disk1 to the cache disk and then change the folder. Is there any risk of the VM to corrupt if I do this wrong?

The remark about the flash device didn't imply you are using it. I just mentioned it because you made a reference to cache and flash in your post.

From inside the VM Internet access should work with both virbr0 and br0 modes. How do you access your VM, using VNC or RDP? In the latter case it is only possible with br0 mode.

Just make sure you copy the folder before starting the VM manager, should be without risk.
